Tech Care

Launching a seamless subscription experience for online and in-store sales

Hero image

Overview

Tech Care is Asurion's bundled home tech and appliance protection plan, designed for easy plan selection and subscription—especially in real-time in-store scenarios. I worked on design, development and shaped the experience from content structure to accessibility, launching the MVP rapidly with designers and engineers.

Role & Tools

  • Role: Product Designer & Front-End Engineer
  • Tools: React, TypeScript, Contentful, Figma, Styled-Componenets, Lighthouse, Axe, Mixpanel, BrowserStack

The Challenge

The goal was to build a high-converting, accessible experience that could run smoothly on tablets and phones in-store, enabling associates to walk customers through sign-up quickly.

Goals

  • Help users browse and compare protection plans

  • Guide them through cart, signup, and checkout

  • Allow non-developers to update content

  • Meet accessibility standards from day one

Design Thinking

We focused on creating a fast, clear, and scalable subscription experience for both online users and in-store associates assisting customers. I helpeddefine the user flow, storyboarded the journey, and collaborated closely with designers and engineers. Our design choices emphasizedclarity, trust, and speed to sign-up. After launching the MVP, we iterated based on user feedback and analytics.

Product Design

I shaped the multi-step user journey from the landing page to plan selection, cart, signup, and checkout. I applied Asurion's design system to maintain visual consistency and accessibility, while structuring content for clarity and ease of use across devices.

Development Work

I built reusable React components, including plan cards and cart summaries. Integration with Contentful empowered content editors to manage updates. I implemented logic for device addition and account setup, ensuring the flow worked smoothly on both desktop and tablets.

Choose a Plan

This componenet was built with lots of functionality in mind, acting as a selector tool to update the carousel which provides informaiton on each plan without having the scroll on the page as well as be the submission to a "form" if you decide you want to add that plan to your cart right there in the experience.

Accessibility

We designed the experience with accessibility in mind from the start. I used BrowserStack to audit cross-browser compatibility, tested with screen readers, wrote automated accessibility tests with Axe for components, and integrated Lighthouse into the development pipeline to maintain WCAG AA compliance.

Cart and Plan Summary

The cart and plan summary component clearly outlined all selected devices and plan costs. Components like these needed to be thought out throughly to ensure there would be no accessibility issues like focus traps. I ensured that with every dynamic content change and update to the cart that users who needassistive technology, like screen readers, would be alerted and updated on time with attributes like aria-live.
